about

On the evening of September 2, 2012, eight bassists gathered together at the Pyramid Atlantic studio and art gallery to stage a benefit for the 2012 DC Sonic Circuits Festival. The results, presented here, encompass free jazz, non-idiomatic improvisation, ambient atmospheres, and other explorative sounds for acoustic and electric bass instruments--a diversity of approaches to the bass in its multiplicity of forms.

Featuring (in order of performance):
T.A. Zook and Doug Kallmayer: NS design basses
Mike Coltun: five-string electric bass
Gary Rouzer: prepared electric bass, objects & motors
Luke Stewart: double bass
Doug Kallmayer: five-string electric bass and open-tuning piccolo bass
Daniel Barbiero: double bass
PascAli (Sean Ali and Pascal Niggenkemper): prepared double basses

Recorded by Steve Sanford.
